Need help setting up mce usb vrc-remote keys remapped with xmodmap

This should be simple enough to do, based on the docs I have read, but I am having an impossible time getting my mce usb remote key remapped (vista mce vrc-1100), so I can use it for mythtv.

I have a new install of Linux Mint 12, using the evdev driver. I have more keys that do this, but specifically, Play, Pause, and Stop pop up a NoSymbol sign (is that correct) whenever they are pressed.

I ran showkey and pressed the Play and Pause button. it said they were keycode 164. I then created a simple one line .Xmodmap "Keycode 164 = p". Now, running xmodmap -pke shows Key code 164 = p P p P

I launched mythfrontend, press Pause and I still get the No Symbol popping up.

Spent a lot of hours on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Raymond
