MP3s don't play after crash


I am using Zenwalk 3.0. I accidentaly opened about twenty MPEGs at once in Gxine (instead of adding them to a playlist) and the system completely froze. Nothing I could do would unfreeze it so I did a reboot.

Now I cannot play MP3s either in Gxine or amaroK!

When I try to play in amaroK I get:

Error Loading Media
No suitable demux plugin.


and when I try in Gxine I get:

The xine engine failed to start.
No demuxer found - stream format not recognised.


I have uninstalled and re-installed Gxine and xine-lib but it is still the same. Gxine will play every format, including WMA, except MP3!

This problem is now solved. It was caused by a corrupted catalog.cache file. See here:
