Most Stable Linux Distrobution
 

I'm finding Ubuntu 10.04 having some stability issues that I can't stand. They are crashing completely, It goes from normal a few seconds later two white blocks are frozen on my screen. I need a Linux Distribution that is stable, I need it based on Debian, that's what most my packages are based on. It needs to be stable and easy to use.

If it must be based on Debian, then why not go with Debian Stable (Squeeze). I doubt you'll find a Debian based distro more stable than that.

Note though, that although your packages are deb-based and packaged for Ubuntu, you may not be able to simply install them in Debian. You will need to re-compile and re-build the packages.

towheedm's suggestion to use Debian Stable is a good one. A distro cannot get any more Debian-based than that.:D It is unlikely packages would be a problem, since Debian has more packages than Ubuntu, and most of Ubuntu's packages are Debian packages modified to run on Ubuntu.

Keep in mind that Debian can be more difficult to set-up if your computer has hardware that requires non-free firmware. A small issue, but one to keep in mind.

And if you find Debian too difficult, there is Saline, which is basically Debian with non-free firmware and a few other goodies pre-installed.

If you need stable then Slackware, Debian or RHEL/CentOS. If you also need Debian compatibility then definitely Debian.

You can make any distro unstable by installing some "strange" packages. Basically all default distros/installs are stable. Debian Stable will give you a safe system, but somewhat outdated.
