I am running ubuntu 9.04 and when i boot my machine,the monitor just displays the normal ways of booting but it fades away the display after two seconds.After i assume the booting over and i power off and on the monitor,it displays okay but it the same,it fades way after two seconds.I have tried to adjust the resolution through system-preferences-display but all is not working.Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

As you have been told numerous times, Ubuntu 9.04 has not been supported for a very very long time. You should really upgrade.
