Mdv2009: Intranet works but internet stopped working

Hi,
I was working with Mdv2009 for 2-3 days but all of a sudden the internet stopped working properly. It was weird because direct connectivity worked, the same settings of proxy, DNS, IP and mask worked till then and still work in Windows! Even more baffling was that urpmi worked but when I tried the same with same proxy setup from command line ftp it doesn't work!

Can anyone help me with any suggestions please?

Thanks,
-S

Run:
dig www.mandriva.com
if you get an ip address answer you do not have the dns problem you seem to have.
browse:
http://212.85.147.118
if you get the mandriva page you do not have a physical/router connection problem.
If you did not get an ip address in test 1 you may have a file, /etc/resolv.conf, with a nameserver entry that is wrong/does not match windows entry.

Will try but I did try to ping google.com and it did show the IP, so it DNS is correctly configured. I have a local system on 172 series of IP which has an automatic redirect from http to https. If I visit it as http://host it does not open but when I do a https://host it opens it.

Again as I said, urpmi works beautifully, sites mentioned as ftp.something get connected, files downloaded and installed. The same cannot be done from command line, I can't explain why.

I am planning to do a reinstall and if the problem continues, I'll get back to 2008.0pwk. The same Mdv2009 works at home flawlessly, hence I am even more baffled. x-(
