Question maximise and minimise

I am unable to either drag or maximise/minimise any window. In fact the title bar has nothing in the right hand corner. am I missing something simple here. The problem started a couple of weeks ago since when I have upgraded to Ibex which has a desktop that is going to knock the crap out of Vista - widgets not confined to a sidebar for one.

Are you using the visual effects i.e. compiz-fusion? Try doing Alt & F2 now type:
Code:
metacity --replace
this will disable compiz and use metacity as the window manager. If that works, you can try and find out why you are losing your window decorations when using compiz. If this doesn't work, please provide more info on your setup.

Maximise and Minimise

Thanks for the help but konsole says I do not have metacity or compiz installed and should install with apt-get, Unfortunately I have now lost my internet connection and that is a real problem. Problems all started a couple of weeks ago with login screen not accepting my (correct)password. Sorted that by by going through GDM although I have Mythbuntu and Kubuntu as my display managers. Something seems to be in conflict here and I do not know what.

If you still have your cd listed as a package source you should still be able to install metacity from that.

Maximise and Minimise

Many thanks for your timely help. I eventually got my internet back by looking at the problem in other threads and installed both metacity and compiz fusion which is a wow. The problem , I found, was started when I downloaded a Christmas desktop background from a third party. Advice to all on this - stick to Linux !!!!

Well DUH!!! There was a reason we all stuck with Linux to begin with. Sorry I couldn't resist.

Not only that stick to downloading from your official distro repository, at least until you know enough to start wandering.
