Making MATE Panel Totally Transparent Like Under XFCE

Greetings:

I wish to make my bottom Panel bar totally transparent so it's not visible at all in auto-hide mode. In MATE Maya, I adjusted Panel Properties' style transparent/opaque box and it almost fully does the job, but apps like Workplace Switcher and Launcher Properties don't change on the Panel bar and stand out while the rest of the panel bar is invisible. Under XFCE and its Panel prefs, setting Opacity at 100% Enter and 0% Leave makes the entire panel bar transparent, Launcher and Workspace Switcher included. Is there any remedy to do the same total effect under MATE?

Thanks,

Jim in NYC

I experimented with total transparency in MATE on my Mint 13. (I prefer partial transparency.)

Note that I use only one panel, but in that panel, the workspace switcher background seems transparent except for the opaque rectangles that represent the various workspaces. Also, the icon for the active application seems opaque, but the others are transparent except for the actual icons and application names. Other than that, the transparency is thorough.

Is that what you are experiencing?

Yes, that's about right. It seems that the icon frames of Workspace Switcher and Launcher app don't turn transparent in MATE along with the rest of the Panel bar, especially using total transparency in panel Hide mode when you can still see a thin line of staggered white spaces at the bottom of the screen which really messes some images. XFCE seems to do this right (oddly to me, its transparency controls seem more sophisticated than MATE's!). I'm still searching for solutions and will report.

Gnome Colour Chooser works on some MATE components, but not on all.

Still useful where it does work. Might help.

Thank you! Your response alone is a relief that your problem's even noticed! Thanks!

I'll try your recommendation ASAP! I just find it ironic that XFCE performs better than more supposedly advanced MATE does on some issues!
