Lucid Firefox cannot see flash/java

Somehow I blew up Firefox where it won't display anything using flash or java. No YouTube videos, no shockwave flash papers, just about anything with video or motion. I get either a blank page, a gray square with a "start arrow" (which does not start) or a note that I don't have the required plugins. AFAIK, I have the latest java and flash versions. I've added any number of players for everything I can find with no results.

Any ideas? Should I start a fresh Firefox install? I don't want to lose my bookmarks, passwords, etc.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Michael

Right below this post appears a gray square that says "The plugin for this content has been disabled. Click here to manage your plugins." I click on the box and all plugins are enabled.

How did you "blow up firefox"?

Are you using the "No Script" plugin? That could disable both flash and java.

Ubuntu did an automatic update. I didn't look closely at what was updated, but then I discovered I could not view any flash content like YouTube or other video things. Usually with YouTube, it is just blank where the video should be. Other sites usually show a gray box with a "play" arrow in the middle, which does not do anything. Sometimes it will tell me I need an updated version of flash, but I have the latest installed (Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82).

I have since upgraded Ubuntu from 9.04 to 10.1. Firefox is 3.6.12. I don't know how to uninstall plugins. It only lets me disable them. I just want to be able to view flash content.

Ideas appreciated.
