Lost My Taskbar

.
.
OK - had a problem, so I replaced everything, box, PS, Mobo,
HD, Memory, even the keyboard and mouse - everything - and
naturally, loaded in Mandrake 10.1 into the new box....

K7VMM MoBo
512 MB Ram
Athlon 1800+
100 Gig HD

Format the HD....

Clean install....

Suck Cess - sort of....

When it came up the first time, I had lost control over the mouse,
altho, the icon was on the desktop....

Lost access to everything, files, folders, taskbar - even the shut-down link....

Tried several times to reload, but the results was the same....

Got tired of it, so I wiped the HD, and did yet another full install....

Got almost everything back, even the mouse....

But - I have no taskbar feature - it's just not there at all....

Anybody ever have that happen to them too ??

The only thing I deleted from the install was KDE (I prefer Gnome), K3B and Open Office....

Device Manager, folders, log-in, start page - they all check out
just fine - I just can't bring up anything from the missing taskbar
(like shutdown, an App, the control panel, sound options,
burn a CD - I can't even shut off the screen saver....)

I can't find anything about it, or how to fix it - anybody got a solution
or a reference to a how-to, or [u]something[u] ??

HELLLLLLP -

PLEASE

I swear, I'm ready to push this thing in a bush and shoot it....

Right-click on an existing panel and go "new panel"

If there are no panels at all, try starting gnome-panel from a terminal

Then just add some menus, a clock and whatever else you need to it.

Edit: I just noticed you can also run gnome-panel from within another window manager, if you love that taskbar you can take it with you...
