Lock gnome-screensaver from cli?
How do I accomplish this?

gilead 11-16-2007 02:18 AM

I don't use gnome, but what happens when you run gnome-screensaver from the cli?

$ gnome-screensaver

(gnome-screensaver:21617): gnome-screensaver-WARNING **: couldn't connect to session bus: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-nfSpD2RF9N: Connection refused

(gnome-screensaver:21617): gnome-screensaver-WARNING **: failed to register with the message bus

There's a thread at that suggest installing dbus-1-utils will fix the problem. Do you have dbus-1-utils on your system?

$ sudo apt-get install dbus-1-utils
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
dbus-1-utils is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 5 not upgraded.

That's odd. The only other thread I saw for launching dbus apps was at They suggest dbus-launch <appname>, or in your case, dbus-launch gnome-screensaver

Sorry that's not much help.
