Local File Transfer App Name?

Hi everyone. Currently, I am moving my music library over to a new drive. I noticed that the process is hogging my cpu. After some quick googling, I found a neat little app called "cpulimit." It works well as I had it work its magic on an earlier job task. However, I am not sure what the name of the app (and subsequently, the pid) for moving files via the gui method. As a result, I can't throttle back that operation so that I can do some other things (like watch a movie while all this nonsense takes place).

Can anyone give me the name? I thought it would be nautilus or gnome....blah blah something but I'm wrong.

Any help is much aprecciated.

Hi, I use rsync to do that kind of thing. Similar to M$Win xcopy.

Does top show the application name while copying/moving?

Both rsync and top are cli apps.

Cheers, Glenn

I can't figure it out when looking at top. This is why I was wondering if anyone knows what the default app is so that I can compare. I guess I could have used rsync but I get nervious with it still.

I think next weekend I need to go back over my recent posts and start "thanking" people. I don't remember that feature being on here a couple of years ago when I first started out.

That's right, Thanks is a new feature at LQ.

Do the logs give any indications?

rsync works really well, and I get nervous using it too, but it does the job,

from fat32, ntfs and ext3.

Regards Glenn
