launch app to specific desktop with WorkSpace-switcher

I run the workspace-switcher with four desktops. I use each of those desktops for specific tasks in progress: email; browser; "watching"; and "running".

QUESTION: When I start a new application, how can I send it to a specific workspace desktop?

I want to do this (1) during login from my session scripts, and (2) when I launch something from a terminal or ALT+F2.

If you have compiz then you could do this.

If you are running KDE then you can use

kstart --desktop 3 program-name

I don't run compiz because it does not play well with "tablet" features.

Thanks for the KDE solution, I'll deploy that straight away.
However, I also need a solution for Gnome. Any ideas?
