Kover disables keyboard and console password

I desperately need help with this !
I'm running Mandriva 2007 with KDE 3.5 on a Compac Evo with the keyboard and mouse plugged directly into the PS/2 ports.

This happened a few days ago, my machine was running perfectly until I opened up Kover 2.9.6 to print a music list. I let Kover do a cddb local lookup for the list of songs and then printed the sheet. I did no font changes or artwork. I then closed out of Kover and went into Google to do a search. I could not type in a word in the search box. I opened up Kwrite and could not type. I closed out of everything using the mouse and shutdowned the machine. After the machine restarted, I could get a character to appear with very hard pressure on the key. I shut the machine down again and replaced the keyboard with an identical keyboard. This did not work.
I went into the System | Configure | Control Center and changed the keyboard to 105 International keyboard from 104 standard. This helped slightly, I did not have to press so firmly on the keys but the very slow response of the keystroke to the display still remains and certain keys don't work. I tried different settings for "rate and delay" in System | Configure | KDE | Peripherals | Keyboard with no success. I finally was able to type a password into System | Configure | Configure Your Computer (the MCC) but none of the changes helped. I then did a log search and found the entries below,
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: moved file /etc/X11/xorg.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.old
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: moved file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.old
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: removed files/directories /etc/X11/XF86Config
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: symlinked file xorg.conf to /etc/X11/XF86Config
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: created file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: running: setxkbmap -option
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: running: setxkbmap us(alt-intl) -model pc105 -option compose:rwin -compat
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: keyboard::write us_intl
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: modified file /etc/sysconfig/keyboard
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: running: dumpkeys
Jan 27 17:50:31 localhost keyboarddrake[3529]: launched command: /etc/init.d/keytable restart

The time of this occurance was about the time I started using Kover. I don't understand the xorg.conf and the XF86Config changes. I thought I was running xorg exclusively.

And now !!! I find out that Konsole will not accept typing in any password.
I can type in SU at the promt but when the prompt follows the password, it
accepts no input, I'm really hurting now !!!

It has taken about 1 hour to type this request for help.
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Everyone, I think I just found my problem. Maybe I panicked when I couldn't use my console window.
My problem was corrected by going to System | Configuration | KDE | Regional & Accesibility | Accessibility. Under the Keyboard Filters tab, there is a check box for slow keys and a speed slider bar. This check box had been checked and others maybe ? I'm not sure. I cleared the "slow keys" check box and everything is back to normal. I can now use the console as root with a password. My PC was working fine until I used the Kover app, I used no strange keystrokes or combinations during or after using the app. I have not tried yet to see if I can duplicate the problem, but I will, to determine if it definitely is a problem with Kover that other users might need to know about.

Sorry for the public alarm, after 2 days of trial and error I panicked being alone with this problem.

The LQ Forum is the only place I have to turn to when being the Linux "Lone Ranger"
Thanks again,
Scott
