KNetworkManager premissions on KDE start
Hi forum,
I have Debian 4.0r1 ‘Etch’ and KDE 3.5.5. I also have some problems with KNetworkManager. It requires to be run as root to locate network hardware and modify wired and wireless network connections. How do I setup KDE to start KNetworkManager automagically on start-up with the required premissions? I have a bad work-around running kdesu knetworkmanager on startup. However I did not have to enter my root password when I used KNetworkManager in KUbuntu 7.10 ‘Gutsy Gibbon’. But I do not know how they have done it. Does anyone know? |
You can install SUID bit on KNetworkManager binary (chmod +s <path to binary>).

Should do what?
Thanks for the suggestion. I did do so, but then I got the following error message:
$ knetworkmanager The KDE libraries are not designed to run with suid privileges.. Have you got any other suggestions? |
