I already have vlc Player. But it is not working when i double click the file which i need to run.Is there any other player which runs avi or other media files run when double click?
|
What happens if you double click?
If you right click on the file you can choose which player you want to use Other players xine, gxine, mplayer .... VLC should work though Any error messages? What happens if you open VLC, and then open the file? Do you have al the codecs installed ? |
vlc player is working ,but i have to right click and select run with vlc player.
If i double click it opens Movie player ,i think it comes default with ubuntu 9.0.Then it says " The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that supports the selected file? The search will also include software which is not officially supported. " |
In the options from your window manager you can set the preferred applications

Do you have autoupdate running, or do you have synaptic open?
if yes disable it or close it |
can you please tell me what is this error?
How to avoid this? |
ok thanks.I have done this using synaptic manager.
anyway why did you ask me Do you have autoupdate running, or do you have synaptic open? can't we install anyu software when these are running? |
Because they both use the same binary and files
If one application uses the files it will lock them. |
Is synaptic package manager open? Are you running updates? That error means something is using apt at the moment. You will need to close that to install anything.
The root of your problem seems to be that you don't have the proper video codecs installed to play your file. I am guessing that by "def file" you are referring to a .deb file which is causing some confusion in your post. What you need to do is see what kind of file you are trying to play...whether it's a .avi or .mp4 or whatever, and google "ubuntu play .avi" (fill in the proper file type) Follow the directions and you should be playing movies in no time. |
if i installe kmplayer using
sudo apt-get install kmplayer how to unstall it? |
