Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I did some editing to the kmenu a while back and when I saved my changes, all of the descriptive folder icons turned into regular "folder" icons and I have not been able to bring back the default icons. The actual application icons are not affected. I have tried kbuildsycoca and update-menus to no avail. I have also tried switching icon themes but that only gives me regular "folder" icons in another theme - not the unique ones that correspond to the different categories of applications in the kmenu. Interestingly, if I open kmenuedit, the correct folder icons appear, but when I save changes (or close w/o saving), I still get the ordinary folder icons in the kmenu itself. I also tried changing permissions in /usr/share/icons, but that didn't work either.
I am running kde 3.4 on Mandriva 2006. I have another computer also running kde 3.4 on Mandriva '06 that isn't having this problem, so if there are any settings or files that can be compared, I can certainly do that if someone could point me in the right direction.
