Hello mickeyO
It would be a great help if you told us which distro you have installed and a little about your computer.

I had a similar problem the other day (Kubuntu Dapper Drake) and doing "$sudo chmod 666 /dev/null" solved the problem. But that might not be your problem.

Good luck!

My problem was different; folder /home/ had 0kb free; so I delete some files....now it works
Try to do this:
edit /etc/X11/Xorg.conf so:
Code:
#Section "InputDevice"
  #Driver "wacom"
  #Identifier "cursor"
  #Option "Device" "/dev/wacom" # Change to
                                                      # /dev/input/event
                                                      # for USB
  #Option "Type" "cursor"
  #Option "ForceDevice" "ISDV4" # Tablet PC ONLY
#EndSection
and comment with # any other section relative 'wacom' (like as above) and do this also:
Code:
#InputDevice "stylus" "SendCoreEvents"

#InputDevice "cursor" "SendCoreEvents"

#InputDevice "eraser" "SendCoreEvents"

[...]
EndSection

Thanks, Mickey. I commented the lines related to "wacom" in the mentioned file. but it still does not work. now it says "error opening security policy file /etc/X11/xserver/SecurityPolicy".

Need i creative this file myself? What is the file content? Or should it be created automatically?
