KDE menu behaviour and appearance changed

hello
mandriva 9.1 KDE 4:

Have a small problem, and I don't know what category, or terminology.
Its not themes, or skins, - & styles didnt come up with much.
It's this: The menu 'style', format, has changed. It was very hover-sensitive, and easy to read, but now it has reverted to a former state, including different presentation, less pretty, and also icons down next to star are no longer of my current preferences,
I uninstalled kde and reinstalled - but nothing.
I THINK I acquired my happy arrangement from a website, but I'm not having any luck imagining a successful term to google.
If anyone has an idea , please?
cheers,Widda
P>S> I had done some reckless uninstalling of KDE package or 2 in repo's trying to fix some other thing, but as I say, have un- and re-installed to no effect, which reinforces my impression that it was an "add-on" that I picked up. Which gives me a clue - to chase up add-ons for kde while I wait for reply.

Mine went unpleasant once and it was the icon themes that changed things.

Is it the choice between "classic" and "default" menu styles? I'm not sure what it's called, but I changed my mine by right clicking on the star / start menu button, and changing it to "default"... I think.
Also search for KDE kicker / Kickoff Menu

thanks targettl (and hello Lonnie)
and thanks sirlance

The icon control doesn't go that deep into menu behaviour.
I thought 'kicker' would help, but no response.
Also the rightclick on star gave choice of Mandriva/Classic or something - but either choice produced same old dreary - and I think that is a malfunction.
However,[SOLVED] by installing Gnome, and find its layout and menu behaviour more attractive and clear. Still using Dolphin for its one-key screensplitting though.
