KDE Effects Cause Lockup or Corruption After Running OGL App

Most of the time after I run an OpenGL game in KDE and KDE effects are enabled I get either artifacts all over the screen or linux locks up entirely. The obvious solution is to turn off the effects, but I'm wondering if this is a configuration issue or known bug. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Juan,
Can you tell us what version of KDE you're using and what games in particular create this effect.
ciao,
jdk

I'm running KDE 4.6.5 and I've had this issue after exiting WINE games, and other games such as foobillard, I suppose anything opengl related.

Ah. It's wine related. I don't use wine so I am of no help to you. Sorry.

It's not directly related to wine, wine just happens to use opengl as well.

Do you have checked option in "System Settings"/"Desktop Effects" on the tab "Advanced" checkbox "Suspend desktop effects for fullscreen windows"?

Do openGL screensavers (Cage, GL Planet, etc.) also cause the problem?

I don't use screen savers, but virtually everything I've tested using opengl causes this problem.

Are there any error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log? When you run one of those OpenGL applications from the command line, to any error messages appear?

For what it's worth I upgraded from the 270 nvidia kernel to the 275 and the problem seems to be solved
