just an idea.
I haven't done any programing. But I have an idea that comes from installing Beryl on my Ubuntu 7.04 install. I have an ATI card so I will have to wait for compiz to develop a stable version for ATI. Anyhow I was working with my searches and generally reading about beryl and ubuntu and fine tuning my system. I was wondering if anyone has developed software simular to the 3d Cube, but it is displayed as a Globe? You could map links to the globe to provide information such as; weather, airline schedules, exchange rate, excursions, places to eat/stay/club/museums, the list could go on and on. I'm sure someone has done this somewhere. Anyone, please?
Thanks, Darrell |
I don't think this has been done, but cool idea. Better start learning programming and give a shot at it!

Google Earth?
Been a while since I've used it. All I remember was that I could see my house from satellite image 2 years old. Do they now have it mapped for country, region, city info? It seemed to me that the zoom wasn't working right. "4 me anyway" Still yet with all this free time on my hands I have nothing else better to do. What steps should I take to develop a program like Beryl or Compiz Fusion or just a globe to drop into either program. The only programing I remember is Basic for early 80s, and I don't think that will work. Thanks, Darrell

Cool idea, it looks like ! |
This is what I was thinking about.
I had in mind something simular to this http://freeearth.poly9.com/
except I was thinking of having a clickable link that would display all options of a particular place. Here they have different option menu globes. Bring it all together and display each maped location as a menu from which you could choose the information you wanted. Looks like it is being done. Thanks, Darrell |
