I've never really used KOffice to nay great extent, but it is definitely different from OpenOffice.org.
From what I can gather the Koffice implementation of odf is non-standard, so even though it supports odf to a degree it might not import or export all the formatting correctly.
That's what I hear a while ago. I can't verify from personal experience whether there are any compatibility problems, and I don't know whether it's still true with more recent versions of KOffice.
