Installing Icons - XCFE

Hi,

I have compiled xfce from source code and need to install icons on it.

I downloaded the Compass file and have extracted it in /usr/share/icons but the icons do not seem to change accordingly.

What should i do ?

Did you extract the icon package to its own subdirectory under /usr/share/icons? In other words, all icons files should be in /usr/share/icons/compass or the like. No subdirectories of the icon directory.

Did you select the icons in the "Appearance" program (Settings -> Appearance)?

Can you provide a link to the file?

Also, consider extracting it to ~/.icons, unless you want that set available to all users.

It works here, on 12.04 Xubu.

Make sure the path is '/usr/share/Compass' and not '/usr/share/compass/Compass'. I used atool for unpacking and it created the latter.
Make sure the access rights are set properly, i had rwx------ on compass.

Your foldername is not capitalized ("compass") whereas Captain Pinkeye's is ("Compass"). It does make a difference.
