Install GNOME 3 globally with jhbuild

I'm trying to install GNOME 3 globally via JHBuild; essentially, JHBuild (through gnome-shell-build-setup.sh) installs GNOME Shell perfectly in my home directory, however I want to upgrade the rest of GNOME's components, totem, eog, et cetera. This is not possible through the regular ./configure command, because when running, the script searches the regular directories used for installation for the libraries and programs needed to compile whatever it is I'm compiling, however those upgraded libraries are installed in my home directory. Running JHBuild as root returns "You should not run JHBuild as root."

Is there any way to install GNOME 3 from git or from the source packages globally, or should I just wait for the next version of Fedora, when the packages make their way into the repositories?

You could just build a different moduleset, keeping all the configuration the same as with gnome-shell moduleset. Installing the packages into ~/gnome-shell/install

Just alter your .jhbuildrc

from
Quote:
moduleset = 'http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/plain/tools/build/gnome-shell.modules'

modules = [ 'gnome-shell-using-gir-repository' ]
to another from here:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/jhbuild/tree/modulesets

You could also alter jhbuild prefix (/opt/gnome)

Quote:
# Directory where to check sources out

checkoutroot = '/opt/gnome-shell/source'

# Directory where to install

prefix = '/opt/gnome-shell/install'
