I want to add places to the system menu in KDE


HI

I am using Ubuntu with the KDE desktop

could someone let me know to add new folders to the system places menu?

look for a directory like /usr/share/desktop-directories those files inside there represent KDE's menu directories, you can easily create them, the syntax goes something like:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Directory
Name=System
Icon=Package_Editors


there is also a lot of extra entries for translations in to other languages, you will not need them if you use only English...

one more item, there is another directory /usr/share/applications that has the applications for your menus that goes like this:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Exec=firefox
Icon=firefox.xpm
Categories=Network

and it will have other things like MIME types & etc...

I had a look in that folder but all that was in there were directory files? i didnt understand what i could or should do from there

they are editable text files...

you may be better of using kmenuedit...
