I cannot start desktop-effects in Fedora 8

I just installled Fedora 8 .
But I cannot start desktop-effects.
Is that due to my display card(Ati x1950 pro)? I hav read many threads telling that it's not yet working right on Fedora 8.
Had anyone succeeded in installing driver for it? Please tell me.
Is it only the problem in Fedora 8? Is it work in fedora 7?

Hi, have you installed the official driver from ati.com/your package manager,?? If not, do it, and try to activate the effects. Also it would be nice if you were a bit more specific about your problem (eg : window manager crashes/nothing happens...)

Hi, sorry for the delay, vacation and all...

x1900 is OK (btw it's a unified driver, which means that it should work for all ATI cards; those which are supported, of course). Now you can get drivers from ati.com which have aiglx support (desktop effects should work out of the box (the version is 7.xx).

If you have several DVD drives, have you selected the right one? I'd suggest checking the DVD (image and burned) for errors, in the worst case you'll have to download it again.

A bit more info about your system would help : on what does it hang for all that time? From which vendor is your graphic card? Are the correct drivers installed?
