I am looking for an open source map making program.


I am looking for a program that I can use to turn photos into maps. I am going to use on my linux system butb if also works with window aswell would be a plus.

Please explain what type of photos you mean? Are these aerial photos or taken from the street? Do you want something that automates the process, or just graphic software that you can use to create maps? (if it's the latter, GIMP will do)

I wonder if some of that GIS stuff would work?

The're satellite images I want something that will automate the process. (i.e. I don't know like something that will allow me to index and edit without actually having to put the files in one.
Having memory problems 16gig ram and still slow. and my laptop has 2 gig ram so we're talking compression withoutdata loss or distortion
