How to reset Gnome startup Scripts?

i am a big gnome fan but one thing i have learned is that you shouldn't rely too much on it's startup scripts. or at least thats what gnome calls them when you have to use failsafe gnome to get back into it.

does anybody know the proper way to reset those scripts (you know, the ones that try to load all the apps that were running in your previous session). the only thing i know to do is to create a whole new user account and re-decorate from there. it sucks to do that

anybody been there?

thanks

Wink Found it!

Woke up this morning and got ready to create a brand new account as such... but wouldn't you know it, in the process I noticed this hidden directory:

Code:
.gnome2

and wouldn't you know it, there was this suspicious file called:

Code:
session

and in that there were two rather suspicious looking sections:

Code:
[Failsafe]
0,id=117f000001000118034946800000038330002
0,RestartStyleHint=2
0,Priority=40
0,Program=gnome-panel
....

[Default]
0,id=117f000001000118037252500000042940000
0,Program=gkrellm
0,CloneCommand=gkrellm
0,RestartCommand=gkrellm --sm-client-id 117f000001000118037252500000042940000
....

so I said to myself, what if I copied the failsafe section into the default section being careful not to copy the line that said id:

Code:
[Failsafe]
0,id=117f000001000118034946800000038330002
0,RestartStyleHint=2
0,Priority=40
0,Program=gnome-panel
....

[Default]
0,id=117f000001000118037252500000042940000
0,RestartStyleHint=2
0,Priority=40
0,Program=gnome-panel
....

and then give it a try.

turns out, it comes up with the splash screen remaining until you click on it. then, when you try to log off, it kinda pauses... then when you least expect it the log off dialog box comes up. be sure to save current session when it does, then sign on again!

it works!

problem solved.

just a little fyi for you
