Exclamation How to refresh gdm usb input devices?

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 with default gnome(gdm). My system is configured to work in multiseat environment with 2 VGA cards, 2 USB keyboards and 2 mouses. Everything is working fine except that if any of my USB input device gets disconnected then i can't use that device till PC restart or logoff or gdm restart. X11 is working fine cause i can switch TTY terminals.

Note: My by default key combination to switch TTY terminals is CTRL+ALT+F# but after plugging back the USB keyboard it becomes ALT+F#.

ME recently shifted to LINUX. My need was to run MULTISEAT setup for 2 users so i did a lot of search about it over net. Also read that after 8.04 the gdm has changed a lot so it would be difficult for a newbie to patch things or downgrade gdm. So i decided first to get the grounds of basic LINUX environment without any patching or anything else.

Last night i partitioned my hard drives, in view of installing 10.04 As well with 8.04. SOOOOOOOOONNNNNNN i will try to use 10.04.
