How to organize mails in evolution

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Dear All,

Need advice on the following scenario:-

1.I am using evolution mail client on CentOS 5.4. This is working fine since last few years. Now the volume of mails has grown very high. I wish to keep only last two years mails for current use and all others to some kind of archive which I can refer to ( i.e. read from) occasionally when needed. How can I do this ?

2. While working with evolution, some of the mails ( typically of last 2-3 days) show name of the day ( i.e monday, tuesday etc.) and no date.I want to have consistent date and time displayed against every mail.
How to do this ?

Thanking in Advance

Hi,

1. Simply select all messages you wish to archive and choose "file"->"save messages". It will save the messages in an mbox-file which you can easily refer to with any e-mail client. After save you can delete the messages from evolution.

2. It's under "preferences"->"e-mail preferences"->"headers". There you find a combobox "format for date and time" which shows something like "%ad %H:%M". Make it "%m/%d/%y %I:%M %p", or choose the format you like best.

translation of menu options may be inaccurate since I have german version.

Thanks almatic !

There are couple of issues again:

1. The file is getting saved in mbox format. If I try to open this file with "E-mail" ( as shown by right click on the file), the system just does not do anything. On the other hand by opening the same file with a text editor , I can see all the contents.
How to sort it out ?

2. There is no "combobox" showing any preference of Date. I am attaching the screenshot for your reference.

1. you need to import the mbox file in evolution (file->import). Or you can use a different e-mail client like thunderbird for viewing archived mails. Or you just use a texteditor like you did.

2. maybe you have an old evolution version ? mine is 2.28.1, here is how it looks for me.
