How to not start metacity or GTK window decorator?

Hi,

I recently got into using Compiz a lot and right now I start Compiz using compiz --replace. I added this command to the startup sequence when I log in, but it takes a lot longer for the session to start with compiz --replace. I read an article a long time ago about how to do this exact thing only with KDE, and I'm sure there is a way to implement this on GNOME. How would you stop metacity and GTK Window Decorator from starting and start COmpiz and Emerald in place of it?

thanks,
rabbit2345

Mine starts as

compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp

Unfortunately I can't tell you what any of the options mean. I am running Fedora 11 and I have installed the "Compiz Fusion Icon" at startup - not sure if this is available in Debian. The icon allows you to modify many compiz settings, including those which you mention.

These are the rpms I have installed:-

compiz-gnome-0.7.8-19.fc11.i586
compizconfig-python-0.7.8-3.fc11.i586
compiz-fusion-0.7.8-8.fc11.i586
compiz-fusion-extras-gnome-0.7.8-6.fc11.i586
compiz-0.7.8-19.fc11.i586
compiz-fusion-gnome-0.7.8-8.fc11.i586
compiz-fusion-extras-0.7.8-6.fc11.i586
libcompizconfig-0.7.8-3.fc11.i586

I know how to start compiz using --replace, but I want to start compiz first instead of starting metacity and then having compiz replace it. Is there a way to stop metacity from starting at all and make compiz start to begin with?

I'm sorry, but I can't help you - I've got no idea. Maybe you need to get onto a gnome desktop forum or a specific compiz forum and ask someone there?
