How to install things in Ubuntu using an Ubuntu Live CD

Hello everybody, I have been used Ubuntu many years ago but I wonder if it's possible to install packages or different things from the ubuntu software center or from different sources without installing ubuntu.

What I mean is that I'm using an Ubuntu live CD in a PC but I'm trying Ubuntu with the CD (It's Not installed) and it seems that I can't install anything, my question is: żIs there a way to install things in Ubuntu trying the live CD (without Ubuntu Installed)?

Thanks for your help and your answers

Yes you can do that but why not consider a live usb? Create a live usb with persistence or a real install to a usb.

To make a live cd save data you either need a special distro like puppy that can save to a cd-rw or you need to modify your live cd to do a similar thing either to a cd-rw(which is bad since the disk is full) or use a usb to save persistent data. See how we get back to needing a usb?

On most systems you can install software to the live cd. The live cd runs memory and the cd and fakes the cd out so that it thinks it has a hard drive. Not all things will install since the live memory can't really replace core files. To test boot to live cd and try to install some app. It should work if you aren't limited by ram. It will stay that way until reboot.
