How to have Beryl as my desktop

I have the Knoppix 5.1 live cd and want to know how to have the 3d desktop, Beryl, operational. I have tried the boot cheatcode, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Is this installed on your hard drive or are you booting from the live cd. If you are booting from the CD, there is a grub entry for beryl and thats what you need to select.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I am booting from the live CD. What do I have to do?

When you boot from the disc, there is a list of options to select before the system loads. Select the one for beryl (it could be listed as 3d desktop or something like that).

Thanks - I'll try that.

Ok - I have found the alt. desktop option when I select F3 at boot and this is now running I guess. How do I get it to open? All I can find is the Beryl Settings Manager in Settings, but that doesn't get me to the 3d desktop.

If you select the option to start the 3d desktop, then beryl should be already running and there should be a red ruby like icon in your control panel. The settings manager is jjust for changing various beryl settings.

I haven't got the icon or the desktop. In the Synaptic package Manager I am informed that beryl core, settings, plugins, libberyl setting, etc. etc.are installed. I think I'll just stick with the old one - thanks for your help.
