How to create a shortcut of a application with a icon using command line in RHEL

Hi all,
Can anyone please give the command to create a shortcut of a application along with a icon, instead of creating a softlink to it.

???? from the command line??????

why not in gnome r-click the desktop and select " create launcher" from the menu

but from bash i suppose you could launch "vi"or "nano" and make a "*.desktop" file by hand

Thanks for your suggestion,

I got it,by copying a .desktop file of another application and changed its contents as per my application executable and which included its path as well as its icon(from /usr/share/pixmap).
