Question How should I transform my Old PC into a multimedia sysytem?

Ok I found out something about multimedia PC's.
But all I really want it to do is read CD's and copy them, Play a DVD when I put it in, (with both DVD Reader or USB)
I heard about Myth TV but I'm not sure if that is what I need.

Also, What version of Linux should I use for this? (I mean there are LOADS out there o.o) Would Fedoraproject be good?

Your help is appreciated.

Fedora is reasonably good for that. Try one and see. You can always switch.

Mythtv is just that - tv. mplayer, vlc & gxine play videos, or cds. In fedora, all your dependencies are installed.

And how do I install Fedora?
I downloaded it, and I want to install it to an external computer. I figured an ISO but I've never burned an ISO before..

You have to burn it as an image, not as a data disc with an iso file in it.

Windows XP cannot do that without 3rd party software.

If you are using Windows one of the Best programs to burn ISO's is Ashampoo Burning Studio (Just click and Burn) Burn at a slow speed 4X for DVD's 16X for CD's these speeds work for me.

As for MythTv Too much work for what you want to do it's more for Well Multimedia PC's

You might want to try this set-up--Install Linux Mint 9 as your OS Install K3B,VLC Player, dvd: :rip and Brasero With Rhythmbox Will play everything Mint also have all the Codecs on Install including Flash.
This is the set-up I use on a Media Notebook (Dell Studio)Have some other programs Installed and it do everything you want without a lot of trying to to make stuff Work. will work on Desktop.

depending on your hardware specs you might not be able to play HD videos

With the change of video format old machines just can not cope sometimes .
