How can I revive GTK+ 2.3.x?!

Dear users.

I was going to compile & install GNOME 3.0 on my Debian Squeeze, but the volume it required was more than what I had on my hard disk so I gave up (Besides those headaches that are made by its dependencies on different not-installed packages.). But I've go a problem; since I have installed GTK 3.0 libraries and other related applications and stuff, my GNOME 2.30.2 has some malfunctions. Does any body have any idea how I can restore my GTK 2.30 configurations and libraries properly?! I have installed GTK 3.0 using the `make` command.

Thanks.

You can try switching to Xfce. It can be made to look and feel very similar to GNOME 2.

Hmm, it's a foolish idea, I think! Please note that, right now, I'm using GNOME 2.30 and have almost everything OK except with some minor problems with some applications and their configuration settings. For example, nautilus cannot open the 'computer:///'. It doesn't recognize that!

To be more specific, I have both GTK+ 2.30 and GTK+ 3.0 installed. The thing that I'm looking for is set GTK+ 2.30 as the default library to be used by other applications not the version 3.0 of it.

gtk's config file is at for example ~/.gtkrc-2.0

It has in it some thing like
Code:
gtk-icon-theme-name="Tango"
gtk-theme-name="dark"
#gtk-toolbar-icon-size = GTK_ICON_SIZE_SMALL_TOOLBAR
gtk-icon-sizes = "panel-menu=16,16:panel=16,16:gtk-menu=16,16:gtk-large-toolbar=20,20:gtk-small-toolbar=16,16:gtk-button=16,16"
That names the icon theme, desktop theme, icon size etc. to use.

Then desktop thems are at ~/.themes/dark for the above example.
~/.themes/dark will have /gtk-2.0/gtkrc in it.

gtkrc is the config for your desktop theme.

As far as the icom theme, do a search on your box for where linux keeps them.

Then as for styles that's up to your windows mgr, and it's styles config files.
