If you look at the SuSE web site you may find a statement pertaining to the exclusion of various technologies in the SuSE distribution. Basically they left it out deliberately and they want you to keep it out of their distribution.

You would be well served to change to a distribution that does not act like Microsoft in as much as they, Novell/SuSE, want to dictate what you will and will not do with your computer. I highly recommend that you try PCLinuxOS.

Cheers.

Or you could just load the xmms-lib-mad libraries. Grab them, along with the MAD package at http://rpm.pbone.net.

SuSE doesn't include them as OSS packages, due to some (stupid, IMHO), things, surrounding the MP3 format. OGG and any other open-source-format files will play fine, out of the box. If you buy the SuSE disto from them, MP3 libs are included. They do this, so they're not held liable if anyone gets their knickers in an knot, and tries to sue...they don't distribute them, but sure don't make it hard to GET them, either.

Should take less than 5 minutes to download and install the libs...then you'll be up and running. Enjoy

I had the same problem and solved it right now...
I have OpenSuse, but should "help" also by other distri. i think the distri.'s have similar paths.

this problem has a very very simple solution:

1. Open this file
http://www.osnews.com/files/xmms-mp3-fc1.tar.gz
2. Copy libmpg123.so into this Path
/usr/lib/xmms/Input/

All done!

And i found this under this link:
http://tr.opensuse.org/Kullanıc...pport_for_XMMS

have fun...

Very funny! .............NOT! The problem with SUSE is that Novell is in the USA and must obey to the USA rules which are much restrictive about free software. They're not like microShit and do not care what you do with your computer
