Having trouble getting sox to work with ogg vorbis

Hi, I'm trying to get sox to convert my ogg files to mp3s (whilst still retaining them as .ogg's) for my mp3 player, and although I have gotten it to notice the lame libraries, and claim it can encode mp3's, depsite having and even being pointed directly at libmad (which i'm told is sufficient, is that wrong?) it says it doesn't have ogg vorbis support.

I've since tried to add libvorbis (let me know if i'm barking up the wrong tree) which claims it can't configure because i don't have ogg installed, and i'm not actually sure how to find out/ fix the problem (I can playback ogg files fine, and mplayer/mencoder can use them, although my mplayer can't deal with mp3s...)

any solution that allows me to have an audio programme create mp3's from my .ogg's without destroying them would make me happy, I'm not even nesc needing to stick with sox. But if its not one problem its another...

and here, from config.log, after trying to configure libvorbis:

#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" void std::exit (int) throw (); using std::exit;

Have a look at . I had the same struggles before I found this script. It does exactly what you want without any of the fuss.
