Half-a-buntu

hey Gang!

Okay, so...this si weird....but, I guess some of you may have seen this: I try to install a 'buntu on an Archos 9, and during install I get...half a screen. Has anyone been able to install anything decent (Linux of course) on this thing? I'm this close to smashing it into the wall and p***ing on whatever's left...

What I'd like to achieve: a distro with touch screen and either internal (broadcom) of external (realtek) networking...

Thanks for helping me to keep it together...

Not that I have an Archos but do you have the i8042.* kernel args, poulsbo drivers and xorg.conf:
Code:

Section "Device"
    Identifier    "Configured Video Device"
    Driver        "psb"
    Option        "ShadowFB"  "True"
    Option        "DRI"      "off"
EndSection

I wonder?.. If you do then maybe start by outlining what distro release you installed and what SW you installed and tweaked already.

...you got me thinking there, unSpawn. If I could get in there, I could indeed tweak there. What strikes me is that only the 'buntu derivatives do this (kubuntu, xubuntu and ubuntu) as wel as the debian devivatives (crunhcbang, and even debian itself) ... bodhi does'nt even light up the screen. Fedora does install and handle nicely, but there's no touchscreen. Alsmost all of them dont even recognise the internal broadcom NIC and during install, only Fedora and Mint see the USB attached external realtek network dongle. MacPup (the artist in detecting hardware) does'nt even get onto a stick, as well as freeBSD...
What I'd like to achieve is a portable platform to drag around the house with me. It has to play internet radio, allow me to surf some lite stuff and chat with my girl friend...the latter being the urgent reason :D ... (yes, everyone, I've got a girlfriend, so there :) ...)

This excersice omes as an answer to a question if there is a distro that can be installed on something like this and can be done by a non-Linuxean (so, forgat Arch and freeBSD al together)...my view is: no, but, I've been proven wrong in the past and am always prepared to ajust my views :)

And, word of advice,... Never, ever, ever buy something with a PowerVR graphics chipset again (GMA500 or GMA600).

Point well taken, lucky me I got this as a hand-me-down from my brother...who did'nt get any music from it himself...come to think of it...

Thanks JaseP!

@ Hendri2201 - I fail to see the relevance to this thread here...I'm trying to install Linux on a tablet...

O, and this:

was a polite request to NOT do what you just did. I noticed you just registered, maybe some rules are still somewhat fuzzy...

@ everyone - so far Linux Mint has great resolution, easy install and ... all of the screen! All that remains is ... touch, eh we'll get there

Peace and a high-speed internet connection to one and all...
