Hackedbox/blackbox on dual screen monitors
OS is gentoo.
Video Card is Nvidia Quadro. Monitors are Dell. I installed the driver from nvidia's website and let it configure my xorg.conf file for me. However when I run startx only one monitor comes up. Are there any guides on how to setup dual nvidia monitors under gentoo for either hackedbox (my first choice) or for blackbox/fluxbox. If someone has similar hardware and would care to post their xorg.conf file I would appreciate this as well. thanks |
Hi, while I've never had a Nvidia card with more then 2 outputs I don't imagine it would be to much more complicated to set up one with 4. I never did have that installer configure my xorg.conf correctly. you will have to set it up yourself. there is a good tutorial for 'nVidia TwinView' over at the gentoo wiki that should get you started. and something that took me a while to figure out was you need to add 'xinerama' to your USE flags and recompile just about everything (mostly your windowmanager) if you want to be able to click and drag between screens. a tutorial wouldn't have to be specific to your windowmanager or even gentoo; if you find an example of an xorg.conf file set up for your card you should be able to cut and paste parts of it into your own to get it to go. if it works for xorg it should work for any windowmanager, and the only gentoo specific part would be the use flag I mentioned.

I actually only have two monitors attached to the machine.

Oh, I thought the Quadro was the 4 output card. If your card supports TwinView then this tutorial should get you going:
