gtk-window-decorator not working properly

Hi all,
I downloaded a bunch of updates for my fedora 10 system this morning, and after I had installed them and rebooted the computer, I noticed that there was an issue with the window decorations in gnome. None of the windows were showing any window decorations, and they also weren't responding to shortcuts such as Alt-F4. Moreover, there were 2 "untitled window" buttons on my pager at the bottom of my screen.

I tried turning on compiz, and this brought back my window decorations. They stayed even after I had turned off compiz. However, it will be really annoying if I have to do this every time I log on. Also, if I keep compiz enabled, then when I next log on the decorations are no longer displayed, and I have to disable compiz to get them back.

Any hints as to what to try (and how to work out what the two extraneous windows are - I have a feeling that they are somehow related to the problem).

Thanks, a_m0d

I am also facing the same issue, but for me its little different ... it is happening only for firefox .. so what i did is , i dont maximize my firefox , and draged the edge so that it fit the screen wothout maximizing . I am wating for this bug to be fixed in the next Fedora update .....

EDIT : I also have Fedora 9 in my notebook , and it seems to be working fine .

I have tried running
Code:
gtk-window-decorator --replace
but it didn't seem to have any effect. However, turning desktop effects off and then back on again (or vice versa, or even just doing it one way) seems to work. Unfortunately, I updated heaps of packages at once (I know, apparently its not such a great idea, but usually I don't have any trouble), so I don't really know what package might have caused this problem. However, I did also have a problem with my OpenGL settings after the updates, and had to follow a guideline in another posting on here telling me to add certain modulepaths into my xorg.conf file, which seemed to help. Maybe this is all related somehow?
Anyway, glad to know that I am not the only one with this problem.

Okay, so I found a bit of a hack to fix this problem - I added a command to my session startup under System->Preferences->Personal->Sessions. The command I use is
Code:
metacity --replace
I don't know why this works, but it mustn't be running the window manager for some reason. I don't know where else to set this command to make it work, though. Any suggestions / tips / etc.?
