Gnome will not remain logged in

Hi all!

On a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 I fail to stay logged in. As soon as I the gnome Desktop comes up, it goes back to the gdm login screen. Same thing happens on Live CD boot up to Desktop.

Steps I have taken so far that have not worked:
1 - Cleaned PC (RAM, CPU, AGP card)
2 - Tried differet Video Cards
3 - Reinstalled
4 - Boot in safe graphics mode
5 - dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
6 - kill gdm and do startx
7 - added another user to login with

Thank you for your help!

[Solved]

I tried a previous version of Ubuntu and it worked. This prompted me to burn another copy of 9.04 and it worked!

This just proves that writing things helps find the solution...
