gnome terminal: change link handler

This is a small issue, but something that affects me rather often:

I don't use the gnome desktop, but I am nevertheless fondly attached to gnome-terminal. It used to be that, if I saw a Web link URL in the text output of the terminal, I could right click on the URL, select 'open link' from the pop up menu, and Firefox would open with a tab for that URL. Very handy! However, during some system update, this changed, so that after selecting 'open link', the page opens up in a text mode browser instead. (Links, I believe.)

What system change do I need to have the pages open up in Firefox again? There doesn't seem to anything relevant in the profile settings. I installed gconf-editor, and tried poking around for settings regarding the default browser and http handlers, but it appears that all these values are set to Firefox already.

Hey hydra,

A good question. I had to dig into the gnome-terminal source for this. (http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sourc...3.4.1.1.tar.xz)

It ultimately calls gtk_show_uri(), as documented here: http://developer.gnome.org/gtk/2.24/...l#gtk-show-uri.

Quote:
This is a convenience function for launching the default application to show the uri.
In GNOME 2.x, I suspect the "default application" is that specified in the value of:

Code:
gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command
Or perhaps for any DE, the default is set here:

Code:
grep http\= ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
Anyway, in your Systems Settings GUI, what is the default browser set to?
