Gnome Session wont start

Hi, I dunno what I did exactly but Gnome won't start anymore. I made sure everything in my home directory is owned by me. Gnome will start for other users and I can use other desktop environments, but I had Gnome just the way I wanted it so I'm hesitant to go deleting /tmp and .gnome files. My .Xsession-errors file shows nothing. Can anyone think what it might be?

Is this happened after a crash ?
If it did, you may delete all file in your /tmp reboot and try again....

Cheers.

Good idea, but I rebooted and everything in tmp got wiped. I still can't login to Gnome. I'm sorry to say I can't really remember what happened. I don't think it was a crash.

I think you should switch to runlevel 3 (do "init 3" as root) and then login as the user who can't login to GNOME. After that do "startx" and take note of any error messages that get printed on the terminal and post them here.

Hi, when I startx it looks like it tries to take me to the core window manager. You know the one that ships with the xserver? Anyway all I see is a mouse cursor for like 5 minutes and then a window pops up, but it stalls so I can't see what it is. I can't see anything relevant in the log, but here it is:
Code:
(**) Keyboard1: CustomKeycodes disabled
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Keyboard1" (type: KEYBOARD)
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Touchpad" (type: MOUSE)
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Mouse1" (type: MOUSE)
Synaptics DeviceInit called
SynapticsCtrl called.
    xkb_keycodes             { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)" };
    xkb_types                { include "complete" };
    xkb_compatibility        { include "complete" };
    xkb_symbols              { include "pc(pc101)+us" };
    xkb_geometry             { include "pc(pc101)" };
(II) Mouse1: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
Synaptics DeviceOn called
(--) Touchpad auto-dev sets device to /dev/input/event2
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/event2"
(--) Touchpad touchpad found
ProcXCloseDevice to close or not ?
Synaptics DeviceOff called
FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.
Like I said X works, Gnome doesn't.
