gnome hides "administrative" icons from users who are part of admin group?
With a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04 that has been joined to LDAP, users who are part of the local "admin", "adm", and "lpadmin" groups are having administrative icons: add/remove, synaptic, login window, etc. hidden from them in gnome. The users from LDAP can login, sudo, and perform all the underlying calls, but gnome hides the icons.
For background, I am running a local LDAP server that stores the users and credentials, as well as file system groups. Users are assigned to local groups (users, admin, cdrom, floppy, etc.) when they login on console with the pam_group.so module. The users are getting their local group membership - it shows up in "groups" command output.
How do I get gnome to show these icons to these users?
Thanks for your help,
