Gnome - Can't Remove Menu Entries

Exactly what the topic line says, I've had it happen on several occasions. This time specifically, I installed an MMO called Planeshift, then uninstalled it, and the menu entries remained. I went into Smeg and hid them so they don't show up in my menu unless I'm looking at it with smeg, but they're still there, and the delete option is grayed out. Why is this?

Edit: And yes I have tried Alacarte, it's like the exact same thing as smeg, literally.

Why not edit the menu file directly, like you used to do before Alacarte?

Where do I edit the menu manually? I'm assuming it's just a folder full of shortcuts like C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu in Windows, but where is it? After reading your post I managed to track some shortcuts to the game down in /usr/share/applications and deleted them, but it appears they're still in my menu.

I don't think it's anywhere near that easy, but I hope b)uncer comes back and explains how to do it.

I've been having trouble when trying to add a menu entry manually. However, I assume this is a related problem, so I can at least mention that so far I have found the Gnome Help browser to be helpful.

From the applications, I choose "Desktop", "System administration guide", "Customizing menus".

If you have this installed, have a look at it!
