Gnome 2.x Applets for CentOS 6.3
Hi I've installed CentOS 6.3 along with the bundled Gnome (2.x). Where can I get some additional applets for Gnome? I've googled and hit all the likely suspect websites but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I have a laptop without any keyboard indicators and would like a Gnome applet that would display when the CAPS and NUM lock is on.
Any Suggestions? _thanks |
well when Red Hat locked down development on RHEL6
Gnome2 WAS the default so gnome 2 will still be in use on RHEL/CentOS/SL 6 for 5 more years despite no real gnome support CentOS like RHEL was designed for the server with NO desktop GUI installed now CentOS dose ADD some "extras " for the desktop use but LAPTOP support is almost nonexistent most laptops work mostly well -- MOSTLY ,most of the time if the LED is not working on a laptop They might never work . there might not be any way of truing on / off the LED's RHEL/CentOS/SL on laptops IS a "crap shoot" most things will mostly work most of the time now you CAN look in the repos EPEL and ELrpo or rpmforge do a yum search see the CentOS wiki on installing third party repos then Code:
yum search gnome also over the years i have seen some config file hacks for some hardware and seeing as RHEL/CentOS is a mostly manually configured OS there might be some kernel or udev or int settings that can be set -- off hand ? i do not know of any for a laptop . |
Would switching over to KDE be better then? I didn't see any caps/num lock indicators listed for it either. I'm only using CentOS because we use RHEL at work.

I think this may be what you need:
http://freecode.com/projects/lock-keys-applet You could try installing the Fedora 13 version, since that's what Red Hat 6 was based on: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i686.rpm.html http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat...86_64.rpm.html |
