gnome 2.220 and icon themes...

i recently upgraded to gnome 2.220 and since the icon themes dont work... only stock default themes that are included with gnome work, the rest have 1 or 2 icons that show correctly and the rest revert to default... this is with both manual and gnome-art installs. anybody having this problem and has anyone found a solution?

my distro is gentoo if thats of need.
