Global Hotkeys in Fedora 12

I installed VLC today, and configured the global hotkeys as it was on my windows desktop (this is the last PC i'm migrating :D).
They didn't work. I press them, and nothing happens.

I didn't find much info, so left it for later on (had lots of other stuff to do meanwhile).

I later came across "Preferences > Keyboard shortcuts". I tried the DEFAULT ones, and they work on, but if I change on (i.e.: ctrl+alt+home or alt+d), they don't work (i did, of course, verify they weren't duplicated).

And ideas? It's both fedora AND vlc's global hotkeys not working.

Running Fedora 12, and VLC 1.0.3 Goldeneye (fedora repo version)

Edit: After a final restart when I finished installing compiz, Fedora's global hotkeys now work. It's just VLC that doesn't now. Note that this was not the FIRST reboot, so I really don't know WHY it works now :/
