gdm login screen does not appear
Hi all I am using fedora 9 with GNOME.
I have a strange problem, when the /sbin/init finishes starting all the processes and the servers etc, at the end the gdm login screen should appear. But in my case, the screen keeps flickering and the mouse pointer continues to show the moving circle i.e some action is on. Seems like the Xserver is starting but not able to finish loading due to some reason. How can I fix this ? thanks in advance nishith |
Hi nkd,
Seems like for some reason the GUI is crashing. The best option for you boot the pc in console mode (havent really worked with fedora) and start X manually (i.e log in as the root and type in 'gdm') See if your operating system has a 'xorgconfig' command - if that works you will have ro answer some questions about your monitor and graphic card or else you will have to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually. Please save the /etc/X11/xorg.conf before you start with anything else Hope this helpsm |
Thanks for the input...
I think in fedora the command should be Quote:
BTW is there a way to reload the gdm and upgrade GNOME to a later version. thanks nishith |
