Fluxbox?
 

hey, i wanna learn to use fluxbox but im kinda at a loss. is there any directions or tips i could follow to get started? for example, how to add options to the menus like appz etc so there is an option to open firefox or control centre/network connections or what ever

I use Fluxbox on my older server running Slackware 11, and it's quite nice, very fast on X over SSH. Here is some documentation which should have everything you are looking for:
